OSLO - THESSALONIKI
ON TWO WHEELS

Hello and welcome to the Group (Oslo -Thessaloniki on two wheels with Svein) Nice that you will follow me on my journey through Europe, 6000 km. 16 countries, 101 days on 2 wheels and simultaneous support
Verdens Ark / The Ark of the world / Ark Κιβωτός του Κόσμου.
On my journey through Europe I will visit several capitals, larger and smaller cities, villages, national parks, museums, castles, and many other sights along the route, I will taste exciting and delicious local dishes and drinks, spend the nights under the starry sky, I will cycling along the banks of the Danube from the Danube River to Passau and on to Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest and so on, still along the Danube to Croatia, Serbia, Romania and at Giurgiu I leave the Danube and take a detour to Bucharest and then return back to Giurgiu to cross over to Ruse in Bulgaria and now I leave the Danube and set course for Sofia, From Sofia then the journey continues towards Northern Macedonia and then finally I cross the border to Greece at Serres and then set course home towards Thessaloniki.

Hi all!
This post will probably be a little longer than usual but I hope you take the time to read the whole post and I will also be very happy and grateful if you share this website. In October 2016 I moved to Thessaloniki in Greece at the age of 71 and here I thrive in a lovely climate with sun and heat, a fantastic environment, culture, nature, sea, and many good friends. which serves everything the heart and palate pleases of delicious Greek food and delicious Greek wines. This is the "Good life" and in this wonderfully beautiful country I intend to stay until I go out on a date and drop anchor. Regards Svein Andersen

When I came here I had with me my old HASA offroad bike 🚴‍♀️and even though Greece is not specially adapted for cycling, I have had the pleasure of many short and longer bike rides during these 5 years: Thessaloniki via Larisa, Lamia Livada to Athens - - Larissa to Volos - Around Crete - Alexandroupolis to Komotini, Xanthi, Kavala, Asprovalta to Thessaloniki -Athene- Glyfada, - Vouligameini to Varkiza and a good number of day trips of 50 - 70 - 90 km. to name a few and more cities and places are up for grabs so as you probably understand the bike has become an essential part of my life here and I feel that now at the age of 76 I am fitter and in better shape than ever and now have I invested in a new FUJI Jari Road bike for slightly better comfort along the road. I have long had a dream and plans to cycle Europe across from Oslo to Thessaloniki but the pandemic put an effective stop to it both in 2020 and 2021 but now the trip will be completed in the summer of 2022.

OSLO June 1th, 2022

I am starting from Oslo 1 June and head south towards Kristiansand where I ferry over to Hirtshals and, then across Denmark, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, France then into Germany again to cycle along the Danube.
I expect to spend the nights under the stars, but since I also have a number of friends and acquaintances along the trip, there may be opportunities for a sofa and a shower in some places.

Then some of you think, now the guy has gone crazy, 😁 but I can assure you that I am completely mentally healthy, 😊 healthy and fit and in better shape than ever and is there anyone who feels tempted to hang out on shorter or longer distances or maybe the whole trip, just get in touch ....
So to the main reason I am embarking on this trip. Greece has given me so much joy, experiences and kindness and I feel it is time to give something back.

Shortly after I came to Greece, I became a member of the norwegian group "Vi som elsker Hellas" "We who love Greece" and later also became acquainted with the administrator of the group. Per Johan Johansen and his wife Maria who live at Glyfada outside Athens and I have also had the pleasure of visiting them a couple of times ...
Per and Maria glow and burn for their heart child - Kivotos tou Kosmou - The Ark of the World - Κιβωτός του Κόσμου and when I came with the idea of possibly raising some money in connection with my journey through Europe, they fell in love with the idea. On the WEB and FB pages, reports will be posted every day. The goal is to raise as much money as possible for this organization that works to give orphaned Greek children and youth a good and dignified life. Here you can read for yourself what this organization stands for.

Kivoto's Tou Kosmou was founded by Father Antonios in 1998 when he was only 26 years old as a newly trained priest. With his belief that if he just tried hard enough, he could make an effort to improve the conditions these disadvantaged children lived under. This young Orthodox priest, with his meager starting salary, rented a business room that had previously been a cafe and, with the help of his young wife and weeks of hard work, made this room the first real home for these children, "Kivotos Tou Kosmou - Ark of the World" was born. His first goal was to meet the children's basic needs, such as food, clothing and shoes, and hopefully medical and dental care as the children's teeth were in poor condition due to malnutrition.
